Bigfoot & new family

5/2/21

We left our beautiful state park and drove west on Rte 20 to our first KOA campground, Hogback Lake in Angola, IN. A very large campground with very friendly staff and lots of campers and full-timers. We had a nice pull-through sight on a grassy area overlooking a stream from the lake. Our family walks took us down to the lake and past a lot of the full-timer sites and a vision of how hustling and bustling this place must get once school lets out. The amount of golf carts and 4 wheelers that were being driven around the campground was a wee bit mind-boggling.

We arrived on Thursday and left today (on Sunday), and had some very memorable experiences along the way. Some of you might have heard that I was on the search for Sasquatch (who had reportedly been seen in the area). Luckily I had my trusty Penny with me and she was able to flush him out for me! He wasn't half as scary as I anticipated and even agreed to pose (with the poser!).

Friday we drove to Shipshewana which is an Amish area. We were hoping to see the Amish working at their crafts or trades and find a farm stand where we could support them by buying some goods. Unfortunately, we weren't able to do as we had hoped. We did see some folks tending their fields with a horse and plow and a bunch of folks in their horse and buggies on the roads. I must say, the sound of the horses' hooves on the pavement as they passed by was a wonderful sound amidst the noise of the cars.

On Saturday we had the planned adventure of meeting up with Karl's cousin, Jane, whom he hadn't seen or spoken with in about 52 years. We traveled the 40'ish miles to Ft Wayne and had a great day! Getting to know each other and hearing about each others' lives was a wonderful opportunity and a real gift. Jane and her family are amazing and lovely and funny and strong and are a new addition to our world for sure moving forward!
