Niagara Falls & the English Language

4/22/21

So - retirement is apparently inspiring a whole new language! Yesterday, while driving along Rte 20 in New York, I made up a new word. Some might think my brain is going soft and I'm not functioning on all cylinders. (Yeah, yeah, yeah, don't think I don't know which ones of you are presently uttering "GOING soft?!"... ) I, for one, am going with INSPIRED! You will all have to give my new word a try and see how it works.

PROCLARE = To proclaim & declare.

So according to Mr. Webster, PROCLAIM = to declare publicly, typically insistently, proudly and in either speech or writing: announce. And DECLARE = to make known formally, officially or explicitly. So...as we were driving the scenic route, I exclaimed (in my best Scarlett O'Hara voice) "I DO PROCLARE...!!" Unfortunately, I was so struck by my inspired brilliance and creativity as I fumbled around looking for my phone to document it in my blog notes - that I never thought to write down what the heck I was "proclaring" in the first place!!... (LOL- it's not easy being me!!)

We did, as predicted, get about 3-4 inches of snow overnight on 4/20. Penny was a wee bit confused in the morning but has alway been a fan of snow because it is a built-in water bowl at your feet! We rested and hunkered down in the trailer and had a relaxing day on 4/21.

However, visiting the falls in Niagara Falls was a MUST on our trip and the plan all along was to go there today. We have been to the Canadian side a couple of times and HAD to visit the American side. Given that we presently aren't allowed in Canada (thank you very much #@$%^* COVID-19), it actually wasn't even a choice...Despite having had a good amount of cold and rainy weather so far, we FINALLY bit the bullet and pulled out our storage tubs from the back of the truck to get our our winter coats before yesterday's snow!! Thank goodness we did, because we literally would have walked from the truck, taken one picture and scurried back to our truck in a millisecond if we hadn't had our winter coats on! The power of The Falls is amazing and we had a nice, although cold and windy and snowy at times, stroll. Please make sure you read the pic I have included of me with the sign - it puts things in perspective a little. We walked out to the "Three Sisters Island"and then down to the end of the point. One strange sign we saw that I read out loud to try to have it make more sense to me (but didn't think to snap a picture of) read: "Pleases don't abandon or feed the cats"...???... Not willing OR able to wrap my brain around THAT one... Anyway, it was a memorable day and glad we braved the weather.
