Oh Montana! (Sing it to the tune of “Oh Susanna!”)

Writer: Kay HelbergKay Helberg

(Yeah, so I know that song references Alabama- but since I’m sharing my world with you I thought I would let you into the soundtrack in my head!)

So the end of September brought with it a much anticipated stay in Montana because we were going to be catching up with our friends, Nick & Karen. Karen is a traveling nurse and they were finishing up a three month stay in Anaconda, MT. We were so happy we could make our paths cross as they only recently began traveling the USA in their motor home. We had an awesome time hanging out at the campground together and going into town for some dinners out. Karl and I ventured into Butte one day for lunch at a local brewerey and a museum. However, I must admit we didn’t earn any explorer badges for our sightseeing prowess while here; as we were much more into R&R and doing laundry and going for walks and getting our puppy a bath and hanging with our sidekicks!

After we left Annaconda, one of our other MT stops was in Garryowen, MT. This was a campground with some adorable farm animals and really nice camp hosts who encouraged us to take a drive to The Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument since it was nearby. I can’t thank them enough for the recommendation because this was a very moving experience. The self-guided driving tour through the battlefields is incredible as they have signs with reinactment drawings and a summary of what transpired at that particular hill or point or ridge…And as you look out over the horizon you really grasp what transpired - almost like seeing behind the scenes of a famous movie - except it was soberingly real. This place is a must-see for all you history buffs out there. We really wished we had more than an afternoon to take it all in.

Meet my blog setter-upper-helper...

RoRo The Wonder Dog saved me when I thought I couldn't get this blog going! He abandoned me years ago when he and his sister, Yuka, and his people moved away. But he was there for me when I needed him!
