OK, so this is one of my catchy titles that you won't realize how clever it is until you've read this entire post! Our last stop in Idaho was at the Y Knot Winery in Glenns Ferry, ID. This was a quirky little winery that had a golf course on the grounds. We were parked in a dirt parking lot between a couple of the golf holes and some of the vineyards. The tee markers on the holes to the golf course weren't the usual white/red. They were instead plastic wine bottles to designate who tees off where. I thought that was very clever and worth a pic in my highlight reel. We walked over to the cleverly named winery (again why it was chosen for our trip) to have a tasting upon arrival and then returned to our air conditioned trailer to survive the heat and sun! It was H-O-T and sunny - so much so that our brief little walk over to the winery HURT our skin. It still boggles my mind that we have experienced so much heat without humidity and the intensity of said sun. When I hear how humid Massachusetts has been this summer I feel both relief that we're not there for that disgustingness and guilt that we have it so good!
We returned for dinner that night for an amazingly delicious supper. Our beloved neighbors from "The Hood" in Framingham had sent us off with a gift card for us to use as we saw fit - with the only disclaimer being to think of them when we used it! I decided - WHY NOT here??! (See how clever I was just then...Y Knot...get it??!!!) I chose an amazing halibut baked in horseradish sauce and dusted with a curry topping, and Karl had himself a yummy steak. We topped our most excellent dining adventure off with a mouthwatering berry cheesecake (and I'm not usually a cheesecake girl, but this was melt-in-your-mouth yumminess) and we felt our BIG HUG from Framingdoodle!!
Another significant occurrence at this winery was that my hubby FINALLY got with the program and graduated from Kay's Posing Academy! Many times I don't include pictures of Karl in my posts because he always stands there like he is line for the firing squad or the dentist or something...I can't tell you how many times I have uttered "OMG you look like a grumpy old man!" as I delete said pictures from my phone. And my adorable hubby is ANYTHING but that. The proof in the pudding is a pic I've included here of his pose in the afternoon (of him standing there in front of some white lattice) as compared to his graduation collage which HAD to be the cover photo for this post! And the good news in all of this is that he has internalized his lessons since his “graduation”!
As we left Idaho we were on our way to...(drumroll)....OREGON. Now the "end" of this US Rte 20 adventure did not end with Oregon, but would end when we reached Newport, Oregon in about 4 days time. We still had a night's stay in Burns and a few nights in Bend - and alas you come to comprehend my cleverness of "Y Knot Bend?"...insert wink here!
Anyway - although entering the state of Oregon itself did not complete our destination, it sure as heck revved up the EXCITE-O-METER!!!! The state of Oregon had a very nice welcome center and the woman in charge couldn't have been nicer about encouraging me to take as many maps and info as desired. They like people to sign in as to where they're coming from and I was only too happy to tell her about our Rte 20 extravaganza! As we left the welcome center, guess who was driving? ME! This is significant because I hadn't been behind the wheel since the ONE TIME I drove in New York State...and anyone who has been keeping up with this blog knows that that was many many miles ago!!! I wasn't thrilled to be on a busy highway when driving for the first time in eons, but I did just fine and dandy and it was helpful to get back in the saddle.
Bend, Oregon was a nice place to spend time. Our campground wasn’t that exciting, but all of our neighbors were really nice and we were in the middle of the city; so really close to a bunch of beautiful parks and lots and lots of breweries! (Emphasis on LOTS - they even have an app that can help you locate them depending on which area of town you're in and get deals for frequenting them!). We had some great family walks and I had myself some yummy yummy beer!
